Vegas “Baby”moon!

Geoff and I have been on quite a few mini vacations since we found out we were pregnant (we were coming home from a vacation and on our way to the next when I took the pregnancy test!).  Geoff jokes that we’ve had at least five babymoons already.  Although we’ve had our fair share of vacations recently, none have been specifically to celebrate us and celebrate the beginning of this next chapter in our lives.

I started planning our babymoon  after remembering about a festival I learned about last year.  The RISE Festival (look out for a post about the festival later this week) would be happening in October this year in the Mojave desert, just outside of Vegas.  What an amazing event to go to when you’re expecting and dealing with a major life change!  We bought our tickets and hotel room immediately!

We stayed two nights at The Linq.  The room we original booked wasn’t available so they upgraded us to a suite with a view of the new High Roller Ferris Wheel.  That night, we ate dinner at the Aureole at Mandalay Bay.  We tried their tasting menu (Geoff did the wine pairing).  The food was very good, but we both agreed a bit over priced…it is Vegas, afterall, so it wasn’t a surprise.  The next morning we went next door to the Cromwell to our favorite restaurant, Giada, for brunch.  Again, Geoff tried their brunch tasting menu and I ordered an entree…which meant we had a lot of food to eat!  All of it was wonderful!  Geoff had salmon cake eggs benedict and I had a polenta waffle.  We were also served pastries and crostinis, and the cutest little lemon cookie and raspberry gelato cookie sandwich you ever saw!  Had to share it.  We even took photos in their photobooth they have in the lobby.  While we were leaving, we actually saw Giada with her daughter getting ready to take photos in the photobooth.  What a treat!

We lounged at the pool for the rest of the morning and afternoon.  Renting a cabana was the best decision we made on our trip, I believe!   Because of the room mix up, we were able to get the cabana for free!

That evening we drove out to the Mojave desert for the RISE Festival.  Again, I’ll be posting specifically about the festival later on this week!  It deserves one all on it’s own.  Watching the lanterns rise up into the night sky is an image I’ll never forget.  Such a beautiful way to celebrate our babymoon!

The next morning we checked out of our hotel and drove over to the Wynn to have breakfast at their Terrace Point Cafe.   The view at the cafe was so lovely!  We sat indoors because even in October, Vegas is HOT!  Geoff ordered chicken and waffles and I ordered an asparagus and mushroom omelet.  We split our meals and talked about our weekend.  Once we finished breakfast, we walked around the Wynn, grabbed some teas to go, and headed back home.

Although I don’t feel close to being ready for our little guy to be here (only 7 more weeks left!), our vacation was a great way to spend time together, to dream together, and to appreciate our relationship.  Our marriage comes first and we want to be the best example for our son.  People keep telling us that once the baby gets here say goodbye to vacations and trips together.  Yes, it might be a couple months before we have a long weekend trip together, but we know that travel is our love language and we will keep traveling and vacationing, even with Jack around!  Marriage is important, and giving up what you love because you don’t have time is something we don’t agree with and plan on working on after our little guy gets here.  Looking forward to our next vacation…with baby!
