Open Heart Surgery

light

Here you can find websites and blogs that I’ve found to be helpful when it comes to learning about heart disease.  I have congenital heart defects concerning my Mitral and Aortic Valves.   I had endocarditis which lead to damage of these valves, which then lead to Open Heart Surgery.   I have a Mitral Valve Repair and an Aortic Valve Replacement.  My replacement valve is a Bovine Tissue Valve (cow tissue).  I decided to go with a tissue valve because I do not want to be dependent on blood thinners for the rest of my life, and if I’m able to, I would like to have kids someday and tissue was the better way to go for me.   Tissue valves do not last as long as a Mechanical Valve, so you will need to have a tissue valve replaced, meaning you may need Open Heart Surgery again.   This is my personal opinion.  I would highly suggest you seek the advice from a cardiologist and surgeon if you are needing open heart surgery.  And know this, life is STILL good after surgery!  Don’t forget that.
